when you called at this Department on 5th

September, you said that, according to information

received by the Chinese Government, certain British

nerobants had been adopting the practice of senċing

arus to the British Cominionɛ and Colonies :ith the

object of having them re-exporteć to Chine in such

a way as to evade the Chinese regulations in regard

to the iɛɛue of an import permit by the hegetion in

:.ondon, anɩ you recuested the cooperation of His

Majesty's Goverment in preventing this practice.

Your representations vere considered by the

competent departments of His Majesty's Government and I

not write to inform you that no var material may be
